About Our Church

Woodbury United Methodist Church is a dynamic, growing and caring Christian community.

We believe in a creative God who made known His redeeming grace through the life and example of Jesus Christ. As members of this community we worship God with praise, gratitude and prayer.

We renew our faith through study, through searching for truth and through seeking justice and fair play for those oppressed and discriminated against.

Our mission is to set an example of Christ's love by living and caring for ourselves and others in the community and the world with open hearts and minds.

We seek to help each other realize our potential and to serve God and humankind.

Mission Statement

The Woodbury United Methodist Church is a dynamic, loving, faith community committed to serving Jesus Christ in the world.

We believe in a Creator and creative God who, through the gift of grace, calls us to serve our Lord in an ever-changing and interdependent world.

This mission is lived out through activities that focus on the poor in heart, the disenfranchised, the hungry and the lost.

Our commitment to become the hands and voice of the Word is strengthened through worship, study, and active involvement in the shared life of fellowship in Christ.

People of all ages, cultural heritage and lifestyles are welcome to enter the open doors of our church, homes and hearts.

The church facility is an instrument to be used in active service to the children, youth, adults and older persons of our community.

We seek to make the “good news” of the Gospel come alive in our midst through our relationships, the growth and nurture of our membership, and service to others as we endeavor to live out our congregation’s maxim, “Open Hearts   Open Minds   Open Doors.”

Brief Church History

United Methodism has had a rich and full ministry in Woodbury.
The first local Methodist service was conducted in the open air in the late 18th century.
The congregation moved its services to the long kitchen of Elijah Sherman's Home in 1824, and then built a Meeting House on the site of the present building.
In 1839, a new church structure was built in its place. Thirty-seven years later it was turned 90 degrees to face South, and 21 feet in length were added.
Though the changes in physical structure have been plentiful, the character of Woodbury Methodist Church remains constant - a faithful and faith-filled loving community of Christians.
Since 1985, the church has experienced a dramatic 850 percent increase in membership.
To accommodate this growth, a vigorous building project was completed in June of 2000.
