WUMC’s Helping Hands Ministry is seeking volunteers for a joint one-day project with HomeFront in support of repairs being made to Carol Hennessey’s house. This is a continuation of efforts begun during last year’s Lenten Service project and continued throughout 2025. The project will be held May 2nd and the planned work scope will include: replacement of nine windows; replacement of the leaking flat roof over the screened porch; miscellaneous carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs; painting; staining the deck; and general cleanup of the exterior grounds.
HomeFront (https://www.homefrontprogram.org/) is a community-based, volunteer-driven home repair program that provides FREE repairs to low-income homeowners, thus enabling them to remain in their homes with an improved quality of life. HomeFront is currently serving Fairfield, Hartford and New Haven Counties in Connecticut; and Westchester County, New York.
HomeFront will cover all expenses for this project and a team of about 20 people. WUMC’s Helping Hands is hoping to augment this team with 5-10 people. The May 2nd event will be an all-day event starting at 7am, but volunteers can participate for as long as their schedule allows. Volunteers with little to no DIY skill sets can make an impact. In particular, it would be helpful to have one or two driver(s) that can shuttle volunteers back and forth between parking at a nearby church and Carol’s property. If you are interested in supporting this project, please contact Mark Davis (860-882-4427, mwd2010a@yahoo.com).
