Dear co-laborers in Christ,

Last Sunday we heard a wonderful “testimony” from Christine Smith, coming to Christian faith as an adult; heard a great original prelude and postlude from Peter and Eve Slifka, accompanied by Rod Carnes and Minister of Music Chris Shay; had a fun children’s moment with Luke S, and Ben T,, and had a number of comments about “getting out early!”  The 50-minute service, including my message “Intense Tent,” is at https://youtube.com/@woodburyunitedmethodistchurch?si=5JxzzLQkF6SCPKtr

It was a robust week of ministry with 12 attending two sessions of our Lenten study, “Why Did Jesus Have to Die?;” 10 attending the Tuesday Open Doors Mid-Week Prayer led by Meg Temple and Barb Hunt; and 32 attending Ash Wednesday worship.

Church Council meets TONIGHT, 7 p.m. in the Assembly Room.

Arising from a recent conversation, I am renewing a practice I have used in other congregations of making my sermon manuscript available in print before Sunday morning worship.  These have typically been available on-line, but I am providing print copies as an additional courtesy.

This Sunday, February 22, our “Faith and Fiction Book Group” resumes at 8:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Please see the article for the book to have been read by attendees and the schedule of books through June.  Worship at 10:30 a.m. will include the sermon “Obedience” will be based on Psalm 32: Genesis 2:15-17 and 3:1-7; and Matthew 4:1-11.  Our liturgist will be Dane Guinipero.  Our Black History Month presenter will be Meg Temple.

At 2 p.m. that afternoon I’ll speak at Justice Southbury, Playhouse Corner, 77 Main Street North, Southbury.  The subject will be the upcoming rally in Washington, D.C.  Please see the article in the weekly "Living With Grace" emailed newsletter.

As always, in all your days, please keep your church in prayer.

In Christ,

Pastor Brian
